Drumfest returns with an outstanding line-up - 31-05-2007

The ever-growing and continually popular drum and percussion event, Drumfest, will return to Birmingham this August.

Drumfest 2007 looks likely to cause many a drummers jaw to drop to the floor, with the likes of Omar Hakim, Harvey Mason, Keith Carlock, Johnny Rabb, Benny Greb, Dave Mackintosh and Karl Brazil all performing at this years show.

Drumfest is undoubtedly one of the countries top events in the drum calender, having scooped the title of 'Best Drum Event' 4 years running in top percussion magazine, Rhythm.

This years event has potential to clinch the awards again, with an incredible line-up ranging from world reknowned drum legends, through a cast of clinicians, and also including skin-bashers from touring metal bands and chart toppers alike.

Here is a brief run through the artists who will be performing at this years show-

Harvey Mason - "Harvey Mason is probably the most recorded and most influential drummer /percussionist in this genre." (as quoted from Bassist Nathan East). Harvey Mason has earned seven Grammy nominations, performed on over 150 motion picture soundtracks, played on more gold and platinum jazz crossover records than any other drummer, and played at 12 of the past 13 Academy Awards presentations.

Omar Hakim Well known for embracing technological changes in drumming, whilst often pioneering them. Omar Ahkim has been the choice of drummers for an alomost endless list of greats including Miles Davis, Sting, Bruce Springstein, Mariah Carey, Weather Report, David Bowie, Chaka Khan, Marcus Miller and Madonna, and thats not even getting started!

Keith Carlock -  After receiving music scholarships to Berklee, University of Miami and North Texas State, Keith chose to attend North Texas State University in Denton, Texas because he wanted to study with Jazz performer & clinician Ed Soph. Keith Carlock's most notable recent work is with Sting, Donald Fagen, Walter Baecker and Steely Dan, Keith is the first drummer to play every track on a Steely Dan album. in 2006 he was named '#2 Best All-Around Drummer' in Modern Drummer's Readers Poll.

Johnny Rabb - A student of Berklee, and a well respected cliniian worldwide, also  'World's Fastest Drummer' as recognized by the Guiness World Records, when he acheived an astonishing 1,071 single stroke roles in 60 seconds on a live broadcast of VH1's Rock and Roll Record Breakers.

Dave Mackintosh - The ridiculously fast feet and hands of Dragonforce's Dave Mackintosh.

Karl Brazil - Birmingham's very own star, Karl has worked with Elton John, Bodyrockers, Lulu, Rooster, Shania Twain and now works full time as James Blunt's man behind the drums.

Darrin Mooney - Equally happy playing a straight out rock beat or grooving through into a syncopated Jazz rhythm, live or in the studio, Darrin Mooney has been the sticksman for Primal Scream for the last years.

Kieron Pepper - Kieron is a multi-instrumentalist who’s been playing drums (and occasional electric guitar) for the Prodigy for the last 8 years, and has had various recording and publishing deals with his own bands.

Drumfest will hit Birmingham on Sunday 5th August, when you can expect this great selection of drummers along with PMT's retail village and a few other treats no doubt.
