Here at Birminghamusic.com we are very pleased to announce the line-up of our Acoustic Lounge at this years Music Live event at NEC in November.
We have some excellent acts gracing the stage, where each band/act/performer will be performing a twenty minute acoustic set. There are some acts that will be acustomed to the acoustic setup and others that will be playing an exclusive performance.
Music Live is one of the UK's largest music shows, attracting thousands of visitors each day, over three days at Birmingham's NEC. Birminghamusic.com will have a relaxed and inviting area at stand P40 where you will be welcome to pull up a seat and take the weight of your feet, whilst enjoying some great local talent.
Music Live takes place from Friday 2nd November though to Sunday 4th November at NEC, where you will have the opportunity to see performances from the following acts listed below...
FRIDAY
10.30 – 10.50 Long Day Gone With a release of their single Live Or Die this coming January the band are adding further momentum to the Midlands music scene. Using the influences of Incubus, Queen & The Foo Fighters, LDG continue this music pedigree putting out catchy and melody laden tunes.
11.10 – 11.30 A Day Called Desire Crossing between axe battering metal licks and straight up modern punk beat-downs, topped with a sprinkle of pop melody to ice the cake, these boys look set to impress and won't settle until they do, as ADCD took 4th place in Metal Hammers' 2006 Readers Poll for Best Unsigned Band.
11.50 – 12.10 Jay Taylor Jay Taylor is a confident and talented singer/songwriter from Birmingham. Don’t be fooled into thinking he is just another singer/songwriter, as Jay has bags full of wit and personality. Jay is always full of life, a great entertainer.
12.30 – 12.50 Matt Geary Matt Geary is a newly emerging song-writing talent whose uniqueness comes from his idiosyncratic song-writing style, incorporating a wide spectrum of musical genres, from indie to folk to drum and bass.
1.10 – 1.30 Strangle Kojak Strangle Kojak are four young upstarts with a load of go in them, following their recent bout of gigs in Surface Unsigned Battle of the Bands, where they got to the final, the band are taking their blend of Indie, Punk, Ska further.
1.50 – 2.10 Gemma Quarterman Beautiful, dark folk with a twist of blues, reminiscent of a female Jeff Buckley. Gemma sucks her crowd in with her soulful, passionate voice and flawless guitar work.
2.30 – 2.50 Mike Bethel Mike trained as a classical guitarist and started out playing functions, then in 1997 began performing his own material. Now Mike has three albums under his belt and has earned his reputation as a gigging solo artist.
3.10 – 3.30 Toy Hearts The Toy Hearts are a Contemporary Bluegrass Band from Birmingham, fronted by sisters Hannah and Sophia Johnson. Formed in 2001, Toy Hearts have created and honed their own distinctive bluegrass sound with close vocal harmonies and virtuoso instrumental drive.
3.50 – 4.10 Ben Drummond Ben is considered part of the Nu-folk revival and has taken influence from as far a field as the Flamenco Hip-hop giants Ojos de Brujo to the eclectic jazz of New York’s Steely Dan. His music is often tagged as NuSoul, Flamenco, or Alternative Folk
SATURDAY
10.30 – 10.50 Alan Neilson Drawing influences from Elliott Smith, Bright Eyes and Billy Bragg, here is Alan Neilson; local singer and guitarist who writes mellow, honest sounding songs about love and life.
11.10 – 11.30 Midas Midas, are a Stourbridge based quintet emerging from the Midlands scene who deliver songs of passion, intensity and energy. Combining powerful guitars, electro stabs and tight rhythms the band creates an immensely unique sound.
11.50 – 12.10 Che Female fronted Rock, and No it’s not like Evanescence or Avril Lavigne - it’s really good! This is well thought out, technical, melodic and powerful music. Che are definitely on the rise, having just completed a UK tour, 2008 looks good for Che, yet not so much for Evanescence!
12.30 – 12.50 Paper Thoughts Paper Thoughts is an alternative, indie, folk act from Birmingham. After a handful of local gigs, Paper Thoughts has gathered a wealth of fans. For fans of Owen and City & Colour.
1.10 – 1.30 KTB KTB has honeyed rivers and mothering embraces for a voice. KTB has a mournful-joyful tunefulness rising so effortlessly from violin, cello and bongos that it seems more natural than breathing
1.50 – 2.10 Animotorso Animotorso are a 4-piece alternative rock band from Birmingham, drawing many eclectic influences together to create interesting structures, powerful melodies and a raw angry sound. See the lighter side of Animotorso at this rare acoustic performance.
2.30 – 2.50 Templeton Pek Templeton Pek are Birmingham home grown talent specialising in fast melodic rock. Amongst extensive live show experience they have played arena shows on Taste of Chaos and Give It A Name tours. Debut single out November 26th on Small Town Records.
3.10 – 3.30 Little Sister Little Sister began in July 2006 when four friends, all recent graduates of Birmingham University, decided that the best way to put off finding a ‘real’ job was to be in a folk band. Consisting of accordion, viola, harp, violin, flute, guitar, cello and four vocals, this is definitely worth watching!
3.50 – 4.10 Gundogs Gundogs could well be the new Nirvana with the attitude of the Sex Pistols, says Emma Scott of Kerrang! Radio. This dual female fronted rock band have big plans and big songs to back them. Previous supports include The Kooks, The Automatic, Editors, and The Twang to name but a few.
SUNDAY
10.30 – 10.50 Vincent Gould The music of Vincent Gould - Imagine Damian Marley and Ben Harper trying to out-do each other at a karaoke contest organised by Radiohead. Gil Scot Heron is serving the drinks.
11.10 – 11.30 Vena Carva Vena Carva play a mixture of fast paced songs to dance to; large driving riffs to intricate guitar harmonies, driven by innovative drums. Vena Carva have shared stages with Blood Red Shoes, A Ghost of a Thousand and The Harrisons
11.50 – 12.10 Vix n the Kix Former Fuzzbox girl Vix, returns to the stage with all-girl band ‘Vix n the Kix’, bursting with talent and brimming with a sexy burlesque look, backed with four part harmonies these look to go far. Look out for forthcoming album ‘Moon On A Stick’.
12.30 – 12.50 Duplicate Banana Duplicate Banana is the brain-child of Steve Blackmore and Matt Townshend, known around the Midlands gig scene from former outfits, Soni Quella and Elmira Landmine. This acoustic duo delivers moody pop with smooth harmonies.
1.10 – 1.30 Tainted of The High Tainted of The High are a young explosive 4 piece from Birmingham, with an average age of only 12! The band began in late 2006, with two brothers and a friend, now a finely tuned 4 piece with a bright future ahead of them.
1.50 – 2.10 Blakfish Blakfish play music that covers a wide variety of 'styles' and love to spaz out. Blakfish have played with the likes of RX Bandits, SikTh, Enter Shikari, An Albatross, Russian Circles, Flood Of Red, Kid's In Glass Houses, Rolo Tomassi, Meet Me In St Louis and many more...
2.30 – 2.50 Forever Ends Today A dual guitar hardcore onslaught with catchy choruses and the calmest of breakdowns is how Forever Ends Today describe their hardcore blast. The band recently released their debut album “Reduce The Volume of Your Lungs”.
3.10 – 3.30 John Napier John Napier sees things as they really are; describing himself as a musician with only his own ambitions to set his goals by. Currently unsigned, John has so far managed to bag gigs alongside The Rakes and Boy Kill Boy along with a monthly residency at The Yardbird Jazz Club.
3.50 – 4.10 James Rea Local lad, James Rea is the final performer to grace the Acoustic Lounge stage, as a solo artist accompanied only by his guitar, James will take you through songs about students to the current music scene amongst other topics.
