Birminghamusic.com last night took 1st place for the Digital Design Award at BDI, Industry & Genius Awards 2007.
The BDI, Industry & Genius Awards reward the ultimate in design and creativity in Birmingham and the West Midlands. The awards cover 12 categories ranging from 'Products and Genius' categories for Jewellery & Silversmithing, Ceramics & Glass, Luxury Products, Interior Products, Industrial Design and Digital Design. The other half of the awards fit into the 'Places & Genius' categories, which covers Architecture, Landscape Design, Conservation, Urban Design, Green Design and Interior Design.
The awards were hosted by Tony Robinson, most famous for his role in Black Adder as the character Baldrick, and also presenter of Channel 4's archaeology series, Time Team.
The panel received over 100 entries for the awards and in most cases 3 entries were shortlisted, as in the Digital Design category that Birminghamusic.com was in. It was quite fascinating seeing some of the amazing designs and projects that were emerging from local businesses and in one case the award was given to two winners, as the panel simply could not name one to be better than another.
The Digital Design category was one of the last to be announced and left us nervously sitting on the edge of our seats awaiting the panel's decision, when they announced that the winning project received some flattering comments from the panel, including - "Locally empowering. A fantastic model." "Looking inwards and outwards, it promotes the city and is encouraging entrepreneurship" "A good example of collaboration"
Then it was announced, the winners are....Birminghamusic.com.
The award itself is something quite masterfully designed; from the great-nephew of J.R.R. Tolkien, Tim Tolkien and looks fabulous.
We would to thank the panel for recognising our efforts, along with Birmingham City Council and Sylvia Broadley for all of their help, which without we wouldn't have such a well-respected project to win this award with.
